Established in 1853 on the southern shores of beautiful Lake Minnetonka, the charming city Excelsior was founded by colonists from New York.

Serving as the play-land for aristocrats, her shoreline was filled with activity. She quickly become a favorite get away destination, known for Steam-boating on the Lake, the elegant White House Hotel, and the Excelsior Amusement Park.

To this day, the Amusement Park's Ballroom holds Excelsior's greatest claim to fame. Seeking a cherry Coke following his 1964 Ballroom appearance, Mick Jagger encountered our "Mr. Jimmy" at Bacon Drug. At a time when cherries were actually added to Coca-Cola and overhearing that the Drug Store was out of them, Mr. Jimmy simply replied, "You can't always get what you want!"

Although never officially denied or confirmed by Mick Jagger, it is without a doubt believed by our locals that "Mr. Jimmy" Hutmaker is the inspiration behind this famous Rolling Stones hit!
